Ace your classes with these easy iPad hacks for students!

Eight iPad tips every student should know

Whether you’re heading back to school, taking summer classes, or just trying to get your study routine together, now’s the perfect time to step up your game. If you’ve got an iPad, you’re one step ahead. From built-in Apple tools to smart AI features like Notability Learn✨, we’ve got some super useful tips to help you stay organized, study smarter, and get things done. Let’s dive in!

1. Set a calendar

A weekly planner digital template to write your tasks for every day of the week, available on Notability.

Let’s be real, juggling classes, homework, and life is a lot. That’s why we recommend using the Apple Calendar or Google Calendar app to keep track of class times, due dates and study sessions. You can even grab some free daily, weekly, and monthly planner templates available in the Notability Gallery to stay organized like a pro.

2. Elevate your notes

Instead of stuffing your bag with multiple notebooks and textbooks, turn your iPad into a one-stop-shop for all of your notes and study materials. Apps like Notability make it easy to take digital handwritten notes with an Apple pencil or typed text notes. You can also organize your notes into subjects and dividers so everything’s neat and easy to find. No more digging through your camera roll or that one photo of the lecture slides from a month ago.

3. Try Split View

You can use split screen on Notability to view your lecture slides, YouTube video, or another Notability notes next to your note in Notability

Got a PDF of your professor’s slides and your notes open at the same time? Or maybe you’re watching a recording of your lecture and taking notes simultaneously? Set your screen into Split View to open two documents within Notability side by side! You can also put Notability into Split View with other apps like Canvas or YouTube.

4. Use AI tools

Upgrade your study resources by utilizing AI tools that can generate new study material from your notes. Notability Learn✨ can instantly create study guides, summaries, and interactive quizzes from your written notes or audio recordings. You can use the Audio Transcripts feature to record your class, and then use Learn✨to generate practice questions or flashcards from the transcript! It’s like having a study buddy built into the app.

5. Study in timed sprints

Studying for hours without a break is so not ideal. Try the Pomodoro Technique and break down your study session into short, timed sprints with focused breaks. Use the timer app to set a timer to study for 30 minutes, and relax for 5 minutes. During your breaks, get up, stretch, grab a snack, and hydrate! Taking these breaks help your brain recharge, improve your focus, and retain the information you’re studying.

6. Get rid of any distractions

If you’re doing a solo study session, turn off your notifications! Turn on a Work Focus on your iPad or switch to Do Not Disturb. Close all your other tabs and set your phone on silent. These notifications will only distract you from your work and interrupt your workflow. You can come back to your FYP on TikTok after your study session, we promise!

7. Collaborate with others

The options to share your note on Notability by exporting it as a document or image

Studying with your friends and sharing your notes can seriously increase your motivation. Notability makes it easy to share access to documents by exporting your notes as a link, PDF, Note, JPEG, or PNG using the Share feature. Collaborating with your classmates can help you understand complicated subjects better and make studying more fun.

8. Study on the go

As mentioned, your schedules as students are probably packed with classes, extracurriculars, and family obligations. Sometimes it can be hard to dedicate time to study. We recommend sneaking in some studying when you’re on the go, like taking the bus to class. On Notability, you can always access your notes offline. Simply upload all of your notes and other documents from class to Notability, and access them anywhere, anytime! You can even create new notes and edit existing ones, no Wi-Fi required.

You got this!

At Notability, we’re all about setting you for success in and out of the classroom. These tips are just the beginning of how Notability and your iPad can be your ultimate sidekick during the school year. We hope these recommendations help you feel more organized, less stressed, and ready to tackle the school year. Good luck with your study sessions!
